“Do what you can, with what you have.” ~ Wendy Walker

Hi Reader,

Hey friend, can you believe we are already here at Friday? I mean, it’s also almost the end of August. Do you ever feel that the days just fly by? I try and savor each and every one of them.

With September coming next week, hopefully that will mean cooler days, even here in the South. I looked at the thermometer earlier and it said 82° outside. I’ll take it!

I love a new season though. It’s a time to do something new and create new or start your existing traditions. As I reflect on Summer, even though it’s been so hot here, I’ve also enjoyed it more than years past. I did take a nice trip up to WV and then back down to a few southern states. We had a great 4th of July and have been getting some projects done in our home. I was riding around in my side x side this morning and I saw that a few of our trees were starting to change the color of their leaves. That in itself is exciting to me. Bring on soup season. Bring on campfires. Bring on sweater weather and Fall baking. I’m here for all of it!

I took down all of my Americana 🇺🇸 decor inside our home this week. I’ve packed everything up in the totes and will take them to the barn this weekend. I’m going to pull out my Fall totes and slowly start decorating. I can’t help myself lol but by going slower, I won’t feel rushed and I can take my time to see where I want all my pretty things. I usually like to switch things up every year but some things have a special place in our home year after year.

I don’t buy a lot of seasonal decor every year as I love my treasures I’ve collected over the years. However, I am loving this banner this year! This is my favorite fall quilt too. I share this coffee/tea cup with you every year and it’s because I am obsessed and just love it!

Fresh-Milled Wheat Sourdough Sandwich Bread

If you’ve been looking for a loaf bread that is soft and similar to store-bought, here it is. There’s one caveat though. This recipe is made with nutritious fresh-milled flour. I’ve added just a tad of honey for some sweetness. So much better than the dead flour from the store.

An Adult Egg Sandwich

If my husband could have one thing to eat for the rest of his life, it would be an egg sandwich. I started making these 30 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter, Kelsey. We’d come home from Lamaze aka birthing classes and one night we were hungry. I just said to Bill, “You want an egg sandwich”? He was hooked ever since haha. It’s not just egg and cheese. I can’t explain it but it’s just so good. Here’s how I make them:

  • Cook the eggs however you like them. I’ll go between scrambled and fried.
  • Top the eggs with cheese while they are still in the skillet so it melts.
  • While the eggs are cooking, put some sausage or bacon in the oven. Yes, I bake my bacon in the oven. 400° F for about 20-25 minutes.
  • Place two slices of fresh-milled wheat sourdough sandwich bread on a plate.
  • Top with your egg and melted cheese, sausage/bacon, tomato, avocado and salt/pepper.
  • Spread Mayonnaise on one side of the bread.
  • Place the other bread slice on top and enjoy! Sere with a nice bowl of blueberries.
