Halloween 🎃 Candy Alternatives

Classic Beef Stew, Healthy Halloween Candy Alternatives

Little House Simple Living

“Do what you can, with what you have.” ~ Wendy Walker

Hi Reader,

Happy Weeeknd!

Do you have anything fun planned? I sure hope the weather is beautiful like it is here.

Halloween is a week from today. Do you celebrate it? I don’t anymore. We used to take the kids trick-or-treating when they were little but I’m definitely not into any of the demonic costumes or rituals that have become common with the holiday.

We have a new 9 month old grand daughter and the kids decided on dressing her up as a princess. I believe we are going either to our local town or church for a trunk-or-treat. I do think it’s fun and nothing wrong with people dressing up for a night. I actually love seeing all the cute costumes that people come up with. This Classic Beef Stew served over mashed potatoes would be so easy and warm to grab for dinner next Friday. I think a pan of Old-Fashioned Southern Cornbread would be perfect to go alongside it.

One thing I know is we don’t need to be feeding our kids all the junk they pass out. See some healthy alternatives below.

A quick update about our A/C from last week: It’s all fixed, YAY! It’s been in the mid 80’s so we definitely needed it this week haha.

Recipes

Classic Beef Stew

This reminds me of my childhood. My mom would make this stew very similar to what I make now. I will warm your heart and nourish your body.

Old-Fashioned Southern Cornbread

This is my grandma’s recipe. I’ve changed it up just a little to make it more nutritious but it is yummy!

Halloween Candy Alternatives

In my quest to live a healthier life, that definitely includes our kids and holidays. I compiled a list of some yummy alternatives to the traditional candy that will more than likely be passed out on Halloween. If you don’t celebrate it, these are also great for ”just because” snacks or if you are craving something a little sweat.

  1. Annie’s Organic Fruit Snacks
  2. Duo Loli Pops
  3. Organic Giggles (aka skittles)
  4. Gems
  5. Organic Dark Chocolate Bar with Cashew Butter
  6. Organic Dark Chocolate Bar
  7. Chocolate Nougat Bar (aka snickers)
  8. Make Chocolate Chip Cookies ( I shared them a few weeks ago) and put them in these cute little bags
  9. Make your own Peanut Butter Cups but use this mold instead.

This list is not a perfect list of ingredients but they are alternatives to a lot of the processed candy bars like Reese’s or Hershey Bars. Our kids teeth and bodies will appreciate it haha.
