“Do what you can, with what you have.” ~ Wendy Walker
Hi Reader,
Happy Monday friend! How was your weekend?
Here is a bonus newsletter as I couldn’t wait to share with you some exciting news!
Now is the time to start a garden. With the price of groceries and not knowing what is in our food at the grocery store, it’s no better time. Just start small and grow a few things that you know you and your family will eat. Get your kids or grandkids involved. I promise you that you will never look back. Think about how rewarding it will be to eat what you grew.
Last August, we decided to change up our garden. I was using wood beds (although I still love them) and they fell apart after three years. The hot sun is brutal on them here in Florida.
We chose to go with galvanized beds and I have never had a better garden. I’m being serious. I have virtually no weeds or bugs, my yields have been so good and I love how uniformed my beds look. Plus, they are so pretty.

Benefits of Raised Beds
My entire gardening changed when I made the switch to raised beds.
Let me introduce you to Birdies. They’re made from ultra-durable aluzinc steel and built to last 20+ years. That means decades of better drainage, healthier soil, longer growing seasons, and bountiful harvests. Birdies are also non-toxic.
They are perfect for urban and suburban gardeners, especially those that have a small or narrow yard. With different shape options ranging from 2’x2’ to 4’x3’, you can find the layout that fits your space best. At 15” tall, it gives your plants extra room to grow, helps keep pests at bay, and is the perfect height for kids to get involved in the garden. Durable, thoughtfully designed, and available in four colors, these beds bring style to your garden while putting in serious work season after season.
Epic Gardening is having a huge Memorial Day Sale. Up to 50% off sitewide + you can stack my code: lhsimpleliving for an extra 5% off at checkout. They have raised beds, seeds, GreenStalk container, seed starting trays and so much more! Sale runs Monday, May 19 - Monday, June 2, 2025.

Grains - These two companies are my favorite for buying grains and freshly milled flour. The flour is ground on a Unifine mill, which retains all the nutrition due to the process of using stones. No glyphosate, non-gmo, organic clean wheat. If you are just diving in, this is a great place to start.
